Informational Meeting on Possible Power Lines Coming Through Sauk County

More power lines are coming through our part of the state and may cut right through the Baraboo Hills.
Here's the first look.

A company called Transource, working with Berkshire Hathaway Energy under the name Midcontinent Grid Solutions, is planning a 190-mile, 765-kilovolt transmission line running from Crawford County, through Sauk, Columbia, and several other counties. It's called the BECI Project, part of a larger MISO plan to "shore up" the regional grid.

765kV is a big jump. That's roughly double the voltage of the Badger-Coulee line along I-90/94, with towers up to 200 feet tall, about the height of a 15- to 20-story building.

Worth knowing going in: Opponents point out this is a pass-through line is part of a data center build out to move power across the region rather than deliver it to our local communities. A forensic appraiser cited by No 765 Line, Inc., estimates some landowners along the corridor would end up selling at a loss, while many more would simply live with those towers on their land going forward.

The route isn't finalized. The company's first round of open houses is the week of August 24, and the Sauk County session is:

Tuesday, August 25, 10 AM–1 PM
UW-Platteville Baraboo (Lange Center), 1006 Connie Rd., Baraboo. (For other locations & info, follow the links in the comments)
After a quick glance at the maps, folks who live around these roads might want to look, as might folks who live around Hwy 33 toward Reedsburg.
